With the Court of Arbitration for Sport aiming to give Platini an appeal verdict in May, UEFA could call an election meeting before June 10, when the European Championship kicks off in Paris.
The format for the competition’s 2018-2021 cycle must be decided by the end of the year and there have been suggestions that big clubs are pushing for radical changes, which could include automatic places for some of them.
Theodore Theodoridis was previously UEFA’s deputy general secretary.
Theodoridis was widely expected to land the acting general secretary role after Infantino’s departure.
Platini was banned by FIFA’s ethics committee in December and this week took his case to CAS, sport’s highest tribunal.
With world football stuck in corruption turmoil, Theodoridis can not permanently take over the key post at the wealthiest continental confederation until the future of UEFA president Michel Platini is decided.
The Executive Committee of the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) appointed on Friday Theodore Theodoridis as acting secretary general of the European governing body of football, according to TASS.
UEFA officials said that if CAS rules against Platini an election could be held before Euro 2016 starts.
Spokesman Pedro Pinto also revealed on Friday that goal-line technology will be used in this season’s Champions League and Europa League finals.

Kosovo, if approved as UEFA’s 55th member, could yet be included in the 2018 World Cup qualifying program that kicks off in September.
