UEFA to hold minute’s silence before games for Paris attacks

Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte said the Netherlands would tighten security at its borders and airports, and said the Dutch were “at war” with Islamic State.

A statement from his office on Saturday called for “concerted worldwide efforts” to combat “the scourge of terrorism, which aims to destabilize security and stability in various parts of the world, without distinction”.

“This is an attack not just on Paris, it’s an attack not just on the people of France, but this is an attack on all of humanity and the universal values that we share”, Obama said in a press conference. They were unexpected and horrifying, and prompted French President François Hollande to declare a state of emergency, which hadn’t occurred since 2005.

“In France, and Australia, all around the world, we stand shoulder to shoulder with the people of France and with all free peoples in the battle against terrorism”, Turnbull added.

Japan’s Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida says he is “deeply shocked and outraged” by the news of the terrorist attacks in Paris.

“We are of course happy that we have landed safely, but our thoughts are with the relatives and the victims”, said Bierhoff, speaking after the team landed in Frankfurt early on Saturday.

Defense Secretary Ash Carter is calling the attacks in Paris “an assault on our common human dignity”. There is fear but the sentiment that we have to stay united and fearless is also there. The Charlie Hebdo attackers claimed links to extremists in Yemen, while the kosher market attacker claimed ties to the Islamic State group.

Le Monde said its reporter who filmed the scene from his apartment balcony, Daniel Psenney, was shot in the arm after he stopped filming, when he went downstairs to help someone who had collapsed in the alley.

He said Canada has offered “all of our help and support to the government of France”.
