UFC 193 results: Joanna Jędrzejczyk puts on clinic against game Valerie Letourneau

“Ronda is holding that show together and Joanna owes her place as co-headliner to Rousey”.

Canadian strawweight Valerie Letourneau has made the shocking revelation that she used to have to shower naked in men’s gyms after training.

It culminated with an intense staredown after a media session on Friday afternoon at the stadium. That was the story for much of the 25-minute bout, and Jedrzejczyk busted up the challenger’s face in the process as well.

Early in the first round, Letourneau dropped Moroz with a counter-right that set the tone for the rest of the fight.

“She’s scared. It’s in her eyes, her hands, everything”. Letourneau tries to hook the leg of Jedrezjczyk but the Polish champion fends it off. They break and Letourneau lands a round kick but Jedrezjczyk lands a filthy front kick to the face that jars Letourneau. “I met her again in Australia”. Her hands were sweating.

“Believe me, Valerie is afraid of me”, she said of her opponent.

Letourneau laughed off the suggestion. In fact, no one is even coming close to beating her in the Octagon as it stands. If she wasn’t an Olympian then I don’t think we’d be having this conversation. “But the job is done and I will go there with no corner and still do my job”.

“To be honest, nothing really surprised me”, Letourneau said. “If you do this sport and you’re scared, you’re doing the wrong sport”. “But he’s gonna be in the crowd and he knows how much I care and how grateful for how much he’s been helping me”.

“I’m scared of what?”

Joanna Jedrzejczyk, right, has her arm raised in victory by referee Mike Beltran after beating Juliana Lima by unanimous decision in a women’s strawweight mixed martial arts bout at a UFC on Fox event in San Jose, Calif., Saturday, July 26, 2014.

“I’m too fast for all of them”. I’m very excited to see that (fight) live. I think it’s unbelievable how we’ve moved in two, three years, and it’s just something that I could have never imagined five years ago.

“The most important night was when Ronda Rousey debuted in the UFC because it was such a risk for the promotion”.

I think it’s great, and I think it’s great for women’s MMA.

ESK: While I don’t think the ultimate outcome is in doubt – Rousey’s going to win – I do believe this is a fight where the champion is extended beyond the first round and we see a challenger do a few good things in the cage against the dominant titleholder. “She’s just like the mini, gorgeous Ivan Drago”, Rousey said.

“I’ve been in this sport for quite a while”. She’s just so genuine and authentic that people pick up on that.

Will Letourneau’s work pay off against the vicious and heavily favored “Joanna Champion” in the 70,000 plus seat stadium in Australia this weekend? But I know her plan, and there is no more nice and quiet Joanna. I’m getting more comfortable in my wrestling, my ji-jitsu and my standup.

The fifth and final round turned out to be more of the same as the champion proved her technique is hard to beat over the course of a five-round fight.

Jedrzejczyk punished Letourneau repeatedly but she couldn’t find the power shots to put the No. 8-ranked fighter away – although it wasn’t for a lack of effort.
