UFC 195: Rising lightweight Joe Duffy praises Tristar, excited to face Poirier
It was to be Duffy’s first UFC main event – and it was taking place in his home city.

“The fight was due to be on Fight Pass for UFC Dublin because the promotion wanted to build interest from customers and fair play to the UFC because now you can still see me and Dustin fight on Fight Pass. And with the European audience, it’s still not too late a night because I’ll be fighting early in the card and it will be easy to tune in”.
Duffy says he spoke to Poirier in Ireland after he was yanked from the main event and despite their shared disappointment, he appreciated that the American Top Team lightweight handled the entire situation with class.
“It was hard to get my head around for a couple of weeks”, Duffy said. “I’m the experienced fighter, and I’m ready to prove I’m one of the best”.
“I go in there, I enjoy my job; I’m lucky and blessed to do what I’m doing and now I’m reaping the rewards of it all”, explained Duffy, who also garnered a victory over TUF: Smashes victor and current UFC lightweight Norman Parke during their days on the United Kingdom regional circuit. “So I knew it could be a possible date”. I feel like things have really clicked into place and I can feel the improvements everywhere in my game.
“As soon as the fight got rescheduled, my head was straight back into training and getting back to work”. I just can’t wait to finally get in there.
“Irish fans are going to be talking about this for a long time”, he tells us in the preview.
It is widely known that Duffy is the last man to beat McGregor in the Octagon, but the 27-year-old is quick to remind everyone that the featherweight champion is the be all and end all of Irish MMA.
Duffy inflicted one of only two career loses upon Conor McGregor – a 38-second submission victory in 2010 – while Poirier suffered a first round KO at the hands of The Notorious in September 2014.

McGregor was a different fighter five years ago, and the UFC is a different beast. His two first-round knockout wins have earned him $50,000 performance bonuses.
