UFC Champ Stipe Miocic — I’ll Fight Jon Jones

When Oakwood and Valley View Firefighter Stipe Miocic enters the octagon at Quicken Loans Arena on Saturday night, he will be surrounded by thousands of fans, and plenty of fellow firefighters. Miocic is the current champion but Overeem is a very good striker and has won his last four on the bounce so he has great momentum. Rogan had the replay air again, and again Overeem couldn’t point out the moment he thought Miocic tapped.

“The California Kid’s” resume features a who’s who of big-name fighters. The Dutchman came back with a knee, which rocked Miocic.

LeBron James may get all the attention in the sports world as the face of Cleveland sports, but Miocic embodies everything that the city of Cleveland and its residents are all about.

He’s intent on holding onto the title belt longer than two title defenses, and if he does that he will become the first UFC heavyweight champ to do so. He knocks Overeem out cold with one of the punches on the ground.

Within minutes of taking out Overeem, Miocic was already being bombarded by title shot requests from former champion Fabricio Werdum while reporters were asking about a possible showdown with Cain Velasquez. The most obvious candidate would be Anthony Johnson, who is coming off a brutal 13-second KO win over Glover Teixeira, but Dana White has been talking about a Jones/Johnson matchup instead.

There was a freakish moment in the fight where Browne essentially called a timeout over what appeared to be a dislocated finger. The rules indicate that such a stoppage is not allowed, but the referee allowed it to happen.

Former WWE superstar Phil “CM Punk” Brooks, who was overwhelmed by Mickey Gall in his mixed martial arts debut, received a 45 day suspension with no contact for one month.

After storming out the gate, Punk quickly founds himself on the wrong-end of a takedown courtesy of Gall. Back in January, Jones responded to a fan tweet asking about just such a matchup with the Cleveland native, writing “If it was for the actual title I would totally do it”. “It’s just how it goes”.

However you feel, people tuned in and Punk got paid.

The Ohio State Athletic Commission has released the payroll figures that were reported by the UFC, and according to the numbers, Punk made $500,000 for his first MMA fight. A bout between Ray Borg and Ian McCall was cancelled when Borg had to bow out due to illness.

Punk arguably lost the fight in the first five seconds as he marched across the cage and got taken down nearly immediately.
