UFC FN 80: Rose Namajunas Booked to Scrap Paige VanZant

There is a new opponent for No. 6-ranked contender Paige VanZant (6-1) on December 10, and it is No. 3-ranked Rose Namajunas (3-2).

It should be noted that the UFC has yet to confirm this bout change, and we are now awaiting word from the promotion about the change.

The bout will be the first non-title strawweight main event in UFC history.

VanZant is ranked No. 6 in the UFC women’s strawweight division and is one of the fastest growing stars in the sport.

VanZant has won three straight fights in the UFC thus far, stopping Kailin Curran, defeating Felice Herrig by decision, and most recently submitting Alex Chambers at UFC 191. Namajunas, however, would be her highest ranked opposition to date. So I found out that Paige VanZant’s opponent…

Namajunas has been given the headlining assignment due to an injury Joanne Calderwood has incurred. Those bouts don’t appear on her professional record, however, since bouts on the reality show are classified as exhibitions. She earned her first UFC win with a first round submission over Angela Hill at UFC 192.

According to Paige VanZant’s teammate Justin Buchholz, Joanne Calderwood is out and Rose Namajunas is stepping in. UFC Fight Night 180 takes place at The Cosmopolitan.
