UFC heavyweight champ Miocic survives knockdown, wins by KO

Earlier, in the co-main event, heavyweight Fabricio Werdum triumph over Travis Browne, the Brazilian winning on a unanimous decision, 29-28, 29-27, and 30-27.

“I’m going to remember this for the rest of my life”, Miocic said. Overeem keeps circling out. “I wish it was Saturday already because I’m ready to go”. Just being out there under the lights was the most fun I’ve ever had and to say it again, the second best day of my life. Correia doesn’t have a style that’s hard to train for, and the push of the home crowd should’ve ensured a win for Eye.

Didn’t see that one coming, did you? “He has been celebrating his victory”. The entire world is his, really – the world heavyweight champion, after all, has always been unofficially yet undisputedly designated “the baddest man on the planet” – but at the moment, all Miocic cared about was the here and now. It was the night when, after almost two years of anticipation filled with both hope and scorn, CM Punk stepped into the octagon to fight.

Faber has the experience, but has lost three of his last six fights.

“We’re here for one goal and one goal only: We’re going to cement my legacy. I will be back, believe it or not”, Punk said. Will fighting in his hometown lead him to be too aggressive?

Gall immediately went for a double leg takedown at the start of the round and he got it. It was a career moment for the OH native, who was forced to win the title inside the unfriendly confines of Curitiba, Brazil, against Fabricio Werdum at UFC 198.

So who came out on top?

It was a straight left that dumped Miocic, but he can be forgiven. “He kicked harder than I thought”, Miocic said. He has his wrestling base. I don’t want to give anything up. He’s going to do everything because it is everything.

And since mixed martial arts is still a growing sport, some people may not know what all that fuss is about. “If he doesn’t, he’s going to be stupid”.

After the fight, Miocic told reporters that he wasn’t hurt, despite Overeem being stronger than he had expected and hitting a big combination that led to an early knockdown. Miocic and many others around the UFC knew that the No. 3-ranked contender in the heavyweight division deserved a title shot.

In a short back-and-forth with UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley in response, Rogan said there was little choice in playing the replay after Overeem’s comments.

“What sets me apart is my ability to finish off opponents of all calibers, and there’s been many of them”, Overeem said. I always put them away easy, and I think that’s one of my skills.
