UGA, Mark Richt part ways following disappointing 9-3 season
“There may be more opportunities that come in the next 24 to 48 hours”.

That ultimately led to Richt’s ouster.
Mark Richt remains interested in another coaching job and said Monday he will listen “to anybody who has interest in me” as he prepares for his final game as Georgia’s coach.
“I will have an opportunity to look at a lot of options”, he said on Monday.
Richt also spoke with pride about the team’s strong finish. There are reports claiming that Maryland officials plan to meet with Richt in Athens later this week.
“No, he hasn’t said a thing yet”, Ragland said.
“Again, this is about Mark’s day”, McGarity said. See who the next guy is.
Fans would yell for the OC to replace the head coach after every two-game losing streak, you say? “I said, ‘Be patient”. “I think decisions of this nature are very hard”. Mark has tremendous support.
Head coach Mark Richt and starting quarterback Hutson Mason in 2013. I’ve been the recipient of emails on both sides, and it goes with the territory. “If it wasn’t offered to me I would’ve asked for it. I don’t have a preference, there are a lot of great bowls out there”.
“You can tell everybody that I’m going to be fine”. There’s a chance, the Gators could end the season with three consecutive decisive losses – to Florida State, to Alabama in the SEC Championship Game and to whomever they play in a bowl game. The Bulldogs were the preseason pick in the SEC East. Instead, Alabama went on to win the national title.
Overall, he’s the second-winningest coach in Georgia history behind Vince Dooley. “I miss coaching quarterbacks”.
Richt has a career record of 145-51 and a pair of SEC championships since taking over at Georgia in 2001. Richt could certainly succeed in College Park; his excellent 15-year run at Georgia in the SEC confirms as much. “You chose Georgia for a reason, and it was more than just me or (offensive coordinator Brian) Schottenheimer”.
At a press conference on Monday, Richt said he was open to coaching again, but him landing at Maryland would come as a surprise, especially considering his alma mater, Miami, has an opening. “His legacy is well intact”. Now, he is looking for a new gig and it would be wise for the Terrapins to bring Richt to College Park. As a result, he’ll have the next 14 days to contemplate his future endeavors, whatever they may be.
On his weekly radio show this evening, Richt stated that he was contacted today by five schools inquiring about his services. The jobs we do, everybody seems to have an opinion on.
“But I also think in the same token that Kirby is very capable of doing all the things necessary to be a head coach. So that’s kind of where I’m at”. I respect that. It just got to the point where there wasn’t enough confidence that my leadership could get it done. “I understand that. I accept that responsibility”.
The folks that have defended Richt in the past have been defeated by the fans that would chip in for hookers and cocaine parties if it meant UGA getting the best recruits each year.
“We’ve got to make sure we stay together and our minds are right”.
