Ugly win huge for Manchester United’s top-four hopes – Mata

“I am not a clown, I am Louis van Gaal”, said the Dutchman ahead of tonight’s Premier League clash at home to Watford.

Manchester United’s 1-0 win over Watford on Wednesday through a Juan Mata strike was incredibly lucky for a number of reasons.

“First, I think that the media have to let him in peace and rest”, Van Gaal said of Rashford.

“Of course we have now four victories in a row, it is fantastic, but we have a very small selection at the moment”.

“We are on a good run while our rivals are having problems”.

When asked for his observation on the view that no-one appears to want to win the League, he said: “I think everybody wants to win the it but they can not always win [games] and that is the strength of the Premier League That is why this league is popular in the world”. “But when you see the statistics, and how many players are injured, you then see how hard it was”. “I have been watching Rashford for two years, so I have known about him for a long time”.

The 27-year-old Spaniard curled a superb shot from 25 metres into the top right corner in the 83rd minute, much to the relief of his manager Louis van Gaal, whose decision to play two strikers nearly backfired.

However, Van Gaal has insisted that the players need to stay focused and continue to give their best as their policy is risky in terms of relying on young players to make the difference consistently.

Van Gaal has also defended his team’s performance against the Hornets, pointing to the Spanish star’s spectacular victor as evidence of their quality.

“First I think that the media have to leave him in peace”. I believe in it, but the most important thing is that the players have to believe that.

“Watford played very well, they pressed very high up and we had difficulty with that”.

Finally, the Daily Mirror report that Ashley Young, who hasn’t played since United beat Liverpool at Anfield in January, should be back at the end of March.

“It is always the agent that is doing that because it is interesting Man United is inquiring, but we said, “Okay, maybe Borthwick-Jackson and Varela can do the job”.
