The Food and Drug Administration announced Tuesday that recalling e coli after there was a warning about rotisserie chicken salad contaminated with E. coli has spread to a dozen states, including products sold at grocery chains and retail outlets. Five people have been hospitalized.

“We encourage consumers to check if processed celery products they purchased were recalled”, she said.

Last week, Starbucks has reportedly taken off its holiday turkey sandwich from about 1,300 sites after a link between the item and the E.coli recall affecting Costco Wholesale Corp. was established.

Costco said it removed the rotisserie chicken salad from all stores in the US and stopped further production of the product until further notice. “If anyone consumed the recalled products and has become ill, we encourage them to consult with their health care provider”. The stores that are presently under the scanner are mainly Wal-Mart Sams Club, Costco, Albertsons, 7-Eleven, Safeway, and Target.

As a result, Taylor Farms voluntarily pulled the products from stores, including those in Wyoming. The illness reports began on October 6 and involved people from age 5 to 84, the CDC said.

A new outbreak of the E. coli outbreak hits Starbucks coffee shops from the same strain to hit Costco. The incubation period is three to seven days from the time of exposure. According to Jane Schaeffer, a spokesperson for the company, no other markets had been affected by the outbreak. Currently, many health authorities are pointing the finger at Taylor Farms as the source of the E. coli. It is common for people to have E.coli in their stomach. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said that the celery-onion blend in the big-box chain’s popular chicken salad tested positive for E. coli. Health officials are still trying to identify the tainted ingredient. No deaths were attributed to the outbreak, but two people reportedly developed kidney failure.
