UK Paralympic Association welcomes suspension of Russian para athletes
“The Russian government has catastrophically failed its Para-athletes”.

Disabled athletes usually take part at Paralympic.
The IPC’s decision arrives at a time where doping in sports in general is still considered a hot topic – as numerous athletes from various disciplines and backgrounds over the years have found themselves disqualified or refused access to the Games as a result of drug-related scandal – and many were concerned that the IOC’s move to allow Russian Federation access to the Games would be sending the wrong message.
THE entire Russian Federation team has been banned from competing in the Paralympic Games in September as punishment for the country’s systematic doping programme.
“We continue working, our Paralympic team continues preparations for the Games. It is a betrayal of those high human-rights standards the modern world is resting on”.
“It’s an unprecedented decision”, Mutko told Interfax news agency.
The WADA Independent Commission chaired by Canadian law professor Richard McLaren released a report on July 18 on the results of its probe into the accusations of doping and manipulation of tests by Russian athletes and officials at the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympic Games.
International Olympic Committee president Thomas Bach had described a blanket ban as a “nuclear option” in which innocent athletes would be “collateral damage”.
The Russians are likely to appeal against the IPC’s bold move immediately.
“Ultimately, as the global governing body for the Paralympic Movement, it is our responsibility to ensure fair competition, so that athletes can have confidence that they are competing on a level playing field”.
“We are very disappointed with [the August 7, 2016] IPC decision”.
“Tragically this situation is not about athletes cheating a system, but about a state-run system that is cheating the athletes”, Craven told reporters.
The move was punishment for the country running a doping operation that polluted sports by prioritizing “medals over morals”, according to the IPC. The second, led by McLaren, was commissioned in the wake of claims by Grigory Rodchenkov, the former Moscow and Sochi lab chief. But the IPC had no such qualms and its hardline move drew praise from anti-doping authorities.
On Sunday, WADA came out in support of the IPC’s decision, saying it’s “in the interest of clean athletes and the clean sport movement”. Of those samples, 17 were from athletes that do not compete in sports on the Paralympic program. “Their thirst for glory at all costs has severely damaged the integrity and image of all sport”. Brazil is the host nation of this event as well. “It has lost its greatness and it needs to get it back”.

The report identified 27 samples relating to eight Para-sports, five of which are summer sports, including some governed by the IPC.
