The Republican presidential candidate, who has maintained a wide lead in most early polling, sparked criticism among many American Jewish people last week after speaking to a gathering of Jewish donors. “True Muslims know or should know that it goes against our religion to try and force Islam on anybody”.
Trump has said his ban would be temporary until the government could better assess the threat of terrorism.
Trump tweeted Thursday that he is postponing the trip, which had become problematic for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. “I have a lot of friends from Israel and a tremendous amount of support from the people of Israel”.
The firm, DAMAC Properties, initially said it would stand by Trump, even as another of the billionaire’s Middle East partners, the Lifestyle chain of department stores, halted sales of his “Trump Home” line of lamps, mirrors and jewellery boxes in protest.
On Wednesday, Netanyahu’s office said the prime minister rejected Trump’s call for a ban and that their December 28 meeting had been scheduled two weeks ago, before the candidate’s latest comments on Muslims.
Going a level deeper, though, the poll reveals something else interesting: Americans generally view Muslims more positively than they do Trump himself.
But Weinstock added that, like many in his congregation, he disapproves of Trump’s recent pronouncements about banning Muslims from the United States. He also said, “I’m a negotiator, like you folks”. But Minnesota’s Republican Party chairman says it’s partly President Obama’s fault for not showing stronger leadership.
Trump’s plan to ban all Muslims from the United States is drawing reaction worldwide.
Trump’s remarks on Muslims also have caused a global tempest. “Well, there must be something in there if you don’t want me to go in there”.
