UK quiz show champion arrested on suspicion of murder
CJ de Mooi, a former panellist on Eggheads, has been arrested over an alleged killing that happened nearly 20 years ago.

The BBC star, real name Joseph Connagh, 46, has been taken into custody after a European warrant was issued for his arrest. He will appear at Westminster Crown Court on suspicion of murder on 22 September.

He rose to fame after securing a place on BBC Two show Eggheads, after winning a series of game shows.
CJ’s arrest appears to be linked to the claims he made in his 2015 autobiography CJ: My Journey From The Streets To The Screen, in which he spoke about his experience of living homeless in Amsterdam – and how he once had to defend himself from a knife-wielding mugger.

De Mooi, who now lives in South Africa, has made no official statement on the matter.
“He caught me on the wrong day and I just snapped”, he wrote. “I’ve no idea what happened to him”.
The Metropolitan Police confirmed de Mooi’s arrest in a statement.
He said he was barred from appearing on Eggheads while police probed the incident. However, no charges were filed against De Mooi following the investigation.

The professional quizzer is originally from Barnsley, South Yorkshire but he changed his surname to “de Mooi” which means “handsome” in Dutch when he was 19.
