U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry said after talks with U.K. Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson last week that no trade deal could be inked until Britain completes its exit from the European Union.

During an animated speech he pledged to send £50 billion – a quarter of his proposed new infrastructure fund – to the North of England.

Minneapolis, Raleigh and San Diego were chosen due to their economic productivity and research and development institutions, a statement said.

Each of the new USA offices would be staffed by one person, who would be recruited locally in the United States and would work to promote UK business, economic and political ties, the British government said.

The global trade secretary announced the new offices while visiting Chicago as part of a three stop USA tour.

“With the Twin Cities’ leadership in areas ranging from food to health care and with the second-most Fortune 500 headquarters per capita in the USA, there are many opportunities to strengthen the bonds and trade relationship between Minnesota and the U.K.”, International Trade Secretary Liam Fox said in a statement.

The U.K. also has offices in Los Angeles, Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Houston, Miami, New York, San Francisco and Washington, D.C.

Three countries, Canada, Ecuador and Mexico, conduct trade promotion and other services from consulates in the Twin Cities.

On his first overseas trip since becoming International Trade Secretary, Dr Fox visited Washington, where he held a series of productive meetings including with Trade Representative Michael Froman, before travelling to Chicago to speak at the Sage Summit for small and medium sized businesses.
