Ukrainian who posed as teen in US faces sex assault charge

Artur Samarin, 23, is accused of overstaying an exchange visa in 2012 and using a fake ID and social security number to gain entry to Harrisburg High School, enrolling as a freshmen and posing as a model student for the last four years.

According to Harrisburg Police, Samarin was arrested while in prison for his sexual relationship with a 15-year-old student in 2014.

According to police, Samarin is a Ukrainian immigrant and he graduated from high school and attended two years of college there.

Samarin allegedly posed as a successful student at a school where he was a member of an advisory group on a food bank and the Naval Sea Cadet programme.

When Samarin was arrested, he was carrying a driver’s license in the name of Asher Potts.

Authorities say he came to the USA on a three-month work visa then got a tourist visa that expired in March 2013.

“He actually tried to make something of himself and I just think that people need to notice that too”, fellow friend Brianna Smith said. They arrested him on Tuesday.

When Samarin was inducted into the National Honour Society, he met and was photographed with Pennsylvania state Democrat Patty Kim.

Online court records don’t list an attorney for Samarin, who remained in jail Thursday on charges including identity theft and tampering with public records.
