Ump asks unruly fan at Phillies game to be removed

Inherent in that statistically-grounded approach to the game is an acknowledgement that weird shit can happen in small samples. But all of the good vibes from the offense breaking out against the Giants’ lefthanded evaporated as San Francisco roared back to tie the game and eventually took the lead.

After his offense staked him a 6-0 lead, Eflin got the big shutdown inning he needed in the third inning. He worked around trouble all game, only tossing one 1-2-3 inning during his five-inning outing.

Andrew Romine and Cameron Maybin tripled in a six-run fifth inning for the Tigers.

Eflin left after five innings, having allowed six runs on six hits with four strikeouts and three walks. This was his first career eight-run, 10-hit appearance. He walked three batters and struck out four Tuesday. His time on the mound didn’t last much longer. His 12th homer of the year gave Bumgarner a fresh start, but he would give up two more runs, which were matched by Angel Pagan’s two-run shot. The Phillies went on to score four runs with two outs.

An unruly fan was escorted from his seat in the sixth inning shortly after a verbal confrontation with an umpire.

Well, Davidson had enough of the fan that spent good money to heckle his hardest and walked over and ejected the fan from the game. (Video here.) “This guy starts yelling, ‘You suck!'” Davidson explained after the game, per ESPN.

The fan was seated some 14 rows back on the third-base side, but he managed to bother Davidson to the point of an ejection.

Aaron Altherr led the top of the Phillies lineup to an offensive outburst the likes of which have not been seen this season. Philadelphia’s Nos. 1-3 hitters – Cesar Hernandez, Altherr and Maikel Franco – combined to go 8 for 9 with two home runs, a double, five RBIs and six runs scored against Bumgarner. In a loss to the Nationals his last time out, Cueto put up five innings with eight hits and three earned.

Franco later doubled and scored on a Tommy Joseph RBI single in the bottom of the fifth that put the Phillies ahead, 7-6. Franco had four RBI on Tuesday.
