UN carries out first humanitarian airdrop in Syria
The HNC has said it will give the ceasefire a fortnight to test the sincerity of the Syrian government and Russia, Bashar al-Assad’s chief sponsor.

One of the main purposes of the cessation of hostilities is to allow aid to reach civilians, especially in besieged areas cut off from supplies.
SANA says the two leaders stressed the importance of continuing to fight the Islamic State, the Nusra Front “and other terrorist organizations”.
“It must be known that the ceasefire is valid in Syria”, Davutoglu said in televised remarks in the central Anatolian province of Konya.
“This is a critical situation at the present moment with millions of people in need and the objective of course of this trip is to scale up our operations and to bring as good as we can more help to Syrian people”, Maurer said in statement.
Numan Kurtulmus told journalists on Tuesday: “We hope that the PYD will not attack Turkey after Saturday”.
Egeland said convoys have reached 110,000 people over the last two weeks, including the hard-hit eastern Ghouta region in the last three days.
Ahmet Davutoglu says his country will respond to such actions and that Turkey will not be bound by the cease-fire agreement due to be implemented this this week if the Kurdish militia poses any threat.
US officials point out that a cessation of hostilities is already enshrined in a United Nations resolution adopted unanimously in December and endorsing a peace process for Syria.
Zakharova also told reporters on Thursday that the US and Russian militaries have begun exchanging intelligence on terrorist groups in Syria.
The day after the UN’s first airdrop into Syria, the World Food Programme said that only four of the 21 aid pallets it dropped into the besieged city of Deir Ezzor had made it to their intended destination, and even those packages were damaged because of failed parachutes.
In order to promote the implementation of the cessation of hostilities, a Cease-fire Task Force co-chaired by the United States and Russian Federation has been established under U.N. auspices. Turkey, which considers YPG an offshoot of the outlawed Kurdish Workers’ Party (PKK), has said it will consider the truce broken if it were threatened by the so-called “Islamic State” or the YPG.
On Feb. 3, de Mistura temporarily suspended the peace talks and previously set Feb. 25 as the date for the resumption of the political negotiations.

He says however that the opposition wants to stop the bloodshed and would abide by the truce.
