UN rights chief urges India and Pakistan to grant access to Kashmir
“But, the violence is escalating with incoming reports of the State seeking to further choke the people of Jammu and Kashmir by shutting down supplies of essential commodities”, a JKCCS statement said this evening. “Mr Modi seems instead to be laying down a marker that his government will be less patient than its predecessor when it comes to Pakistani terrorist provocations”, Ms Curtis said.

INDIA on Wednesday rejected Pakistan’s proposal to hold Foreign Secretary-level talks on Kashmir and made it clear that terrorism was “central” to its relations with Islamabad, whose different view and attitude has made it hard for bilateral ties to grow.
References to Balochistan, Gilgit and Pakistan Occupied Kashmir by Prime Minister Narendra Modi signals a change in India’s Pakistan policy, top American experts on South Asia have said as they sought more clarity on New Delhi’s new approach towards disturbed areas in Pakistan.
“Whether more dossiers would be presented to the United Nations about Indian involvement in subversive activities in Pakistan, the Spokesman said investigations were in process following the arrest of Indian spy Kalbhushan Yadav”. He said the worldwide community and human rights organisations should call upon India to stop use of “brute force” in Kashmir.
U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein said in a statement issued in Geneva it was unfortunate that honest attempts by the United Nations to independently assess the facts in relation to reports of human rights violations had failed. In the past 40 days, more than 80 innocent young Kashmiris have been killed, 6000 wounded and 120 blinded as a result of brutal action by the Indian forces to suppress peaceful protests.
Meanwhile, the US State Department said on Wednesday that greater dialogue and counterterrorism cooperation between Pakistan and India not only benefits the two countries, but also the United States.
“While the Indian establishment claims Pakistan is fuelling unrest in Indian Kashmir, it is quite clear that the uprising is indigenous in nature, fuelled by New Delhi’s repressive methods in the held territory”, it added. The project will contribute to economic development of the entire region and not only for Pakistan and China.
He said that India has reached out to Pakistan and referred to External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj’s visit to Islamabad in December past year to attend the Heart of Asia conference on Afghanistan.
