Slapstick comedy The Boss slipped to third place after its second week in theaters, taking $10.2 million over the weekend, lifting its total domestic take to $40.4 million.

That ranks as the second biggest April opening in U.S. history, behind only Furious 7’s $US147.2 million ($192 million) launch.

Disney’s “The Jungle Book” has topped the box office in the USA, banking $103.6 million in its first weekend. The ensemble comedy revolving around Ice Cube scored well with critics for a 92% positive score on Rotten Tomatoes and an A-minus from audiences on CinemaScore.

Jon Favreau’s update of Disney’s 1967 animated version of Rudyard Kipling’s book marks the company’s latest success in turning its classic cartoons into live-action remakes. At the domestic level, the earning percentage of this film is around 43% that came from 3D screens.

Despite giving the film a solid 8.1 rating on Douban.com and first-rate critical reviews, Chinese audience were still not as expressive they have been with Disney’s Zootopia, which amassed a par excellence 9.3 Douban rating.

For overseas revenue, “The Jungle Book” is opening with 239.7 million dollars in the global market this weekend, according to Disney. China was the biggest piece of that pie, with $50.3 million, followed by $20.1 million in India. The third film in the Barbershop series racked up a sterling $US20.2 million ($26.35 million) from 2661 locations. That would put it at around $300 million domestically by the time it closes out.
