UNC student says she was raped by Tar Heels football player

As for the UNC athletic department, they have suspended him from the team following the issuance of the arrest warrant, but note they do not control university processes regarding sexual assault. But Branch and Robinson take serious issue with how the Department of Public Safety and the UNC-CH Title IX office handled the investigation (or didn’t) and the interrogation of the alleged attacker by investigators versus how they allege Robinson herself was treated.

“They provided reassurances to him when he became upset”, Robinson said in a statement.

The Times-News typically doesn’t identify alleged victims of sexual assault, but Robinson held a news conference, saying she filed for the misdemeanor charges after police and prosecutors indicated there wasn’t enough evidence to pursue felony charges. “I reported it. I allowed the rape kit to be taken”. On Tuesday, James Woodall, the county’s DA, said the case was “investigated thoroughly” and hinted that charges may still be brought against the accused student. Two years ago, the University adopted a revised comprehensive policy on discrimination and harassment, including sexual assault and sexual misconduct, that was developed based on recommendations and broad input from the campus community and outside experts. They told him, “don’t sweat it, just keep on living your life and playing football.'” Her attorney said they were able to view the public safety file on her case which contained video interviews.

But in this case, Robinson has come out publicly.

Robinson said she “did everything a rape victim is supposed to do”, by reporting it, having a rape kit taken, giving a statement and cooperating with law enforcement and the university’s Title IX office. She said she had been drinking with a group of people and then found herself alone with a male student she did not know.

“…and i think they’ll continue to investigate this matter until they get to a point where they feel they have no other leads to follow”. During Tuesday’s news conference, her lawyer shared a photograph taken at the hospital of Robinson with bruises on her neck. What is my sexual history?

‘I was treated like a suspect, ‘ she said in her statement, according to the New York Daily News. He said, in part, “I can not comment on either the allegation or the investigative process”.

Robinson and her attorney spent six months trying to seek Artis” expulsion “but the university has done nothing’. “How many men have I slept with?” UNC defensive coordinator Gene Chizik said Tuesday evening after practice that he had no response about the rape allegations and referred reporters to the statement released earlier by the university. She said that the investigation was botched from the beginning, with UNC officers first interviewing the suspect while one of his best friends, and a key witness in the case, remained in the room. “Why does the University not care that this rapist is free and could possibly harm another student?”

“The appropriate punishment for underage drinking is a citation by alcohol law enforcement officers – it is not rape”, said Robinson’s lawyer Denise Branch of the Raleigh firm Stuart Law.

Warrants have been issued for a football player at UNC. “While the University always tries to complete an investigation as quickly as possible, our priority is to ensure that the factual investigations are complete and conducted in a fair and thorough manner”.

Sexual assault at UNC-Chapel Hill was also one of the cases covered in the documentary film, The Hunting Ground.
