Raymond Verheijen has worked with Louis van Gaal in the past and does not believe the Manchester United manager’s job is in trouble.
The Dutchman abruptly departed the meeting as an act of defiance in the face of rumours that he will be replaced by Jose Mourinho, who was recently exiled from Chelsea.
Van Gaal said he only appeared at the press conference to comply with Premier League rules, enquired if any of the media present felt the need to apologise to him before wishing everyone a “Merry Christmas” and leaving without responding to any further questions.
Enjoy some wine and a mince pie.
“I have held meetings, evaluation meetings with the players, with members of staff, I have held a Christmas lunch, I gave a speech and I feel the warmth and the the support of everybody at Carrington, this AON Training Complex”. “I think it became pretty glum, if you like, under David Moyes”. “That’s what I am wondering”.
The Sun came out firing as a result of his tirade and demanding of an apology, destroying Manchester United’s recent run of form. What do you think?
Wenger would welcome Guardiola to the Premier League, as he wants it “to be the best league in the world”, but he sounded a note of caution about the ratio of British to foreign managers. But competition for the Portuguese’s services is also growing, with Spanish media reports suggesting that Real Madrid want Mourinho back at the Bernabeu for a second spell. They have called me a lot of times and also Arsene Wenger is saying something about that.
United have dropped out of the top four in the Premier League, have already been eliminated from the Champions League and have not tasted victory since the win at Watford on November 21. “But I can only see when I say something that you use my words in your context”.
Speaking after the 2-1 loss to Norwich last Saturday, Van Gaal insisted he had the backing of executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward and his own players. “I think it is aways sad when people lose his job”.
“Our next chance to do it will be on Boxing Day at Stoke and that’s not an easy game”.
