Unemployment in SC down for 6th straight month

North Dakota had the lowest jobless rate in the U.S.at 2.7 percent in November, while New Mexico had the highest at 6.8 percent.

The state Department of Employment and Economic Development put November’s seasonally adjusted rate at 3.5 percent.

Solano County’s 5.6 percent jobless rate for November tied with Sacramento County at 19th among the 58 counties in the state.

Indiana’s labor-force participation rate came in at 63.7 percent, continuing a 19-month trend of being higher than the national average (62.5 percent). The Grand Island rate was unchanged at 2.8 percent, down from the November 2014 figure of 3 percent.

The dollar has gained 19.2 percent versus the currencies of the United States’ main trading partners over the last 18 months, putting pressure on the profits of multinational firms such as household products giant Procter & Gamble Co and healthcare conglomerate Johnson & Johnson.

The economy added 211,000 workers last month, more than projected, and the unemployment rate held at 5 percent. The professional and business service industry added another 5,500 jobs for a fourth consecutive month.

Over the whole year, the unemployment rate in Arkansas fell.

Many sectors are up when compared to last year as well, with profession and business services leading all sectors over the past year with 12,839 new jobs.

Jobs in construction increased by 5,700, with most in specialty trade contractors.
