Twenty-five states and the District of Columbia had statistically significant unemployment rate declines from October 2014, the largest of which occurred in Rhode Island (-1.7 percentage points) and MI (-1.6 points).
The number of unemployed in OH was down by 5,000 to 249,000 in October. At the same time, the total labor force in the county increased slightly, from 76,300 to 76,800. The job sectors of information, financial services, leisure and hospitality and the “other” category stayed the same. The McAllen area had the highest rate of 7.4 percent.
The USA unemployment rate also decreased in October to 5.0 percent.
“October marks the fifth consecutive month that Arkansas’ unemployment rate has declined and the twenty-third straight month that employment increased”, said Susan Price, programs operations manager for the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Unemployment rates fell in 32 states in October, rose in three, and were flat in 15.
However, data released on Friday revised the job gains for September upward with the new data showing the state posted a jobs gain of 21,100. Marshall is at 5.3 percent; Cherokee is at 5.0 percent; DeKalb is at 5.6 percent; and St. Clair is at 4.9 percent. Employment gains came in the trade, transportation and utilities sector, which added 1,000 jobs, and retail trade, which gained 700 new workers. It now stands at 1.49 million, down from 1.5 million in October 2014. The unemployment rate is 4.4 percent in OH, down from 5.2 percent a year ago; 4.4 percent in IN, down from 5.8 percent 12 months earlier; and 3.8 percent in Colorado, down from 4.4 percent a year ago.
The national report showed payrolls across the US climbed by 271,000 in October, the strongest increase this year, following a gain of 137,000 the month before.
