She’s concerned about getting all of her educational documents in light of ITT Technical Institute’s closure nationwide.

Graduation was scheduled for 1 p.m. September 17. The school’s website says it had more than 40,000 students enrolled.

“I was expecting this kind of news, however, it is bittersweet because a lot of innocent people work there”. “Kind of anxious. Does that affect our degrees for the people who have gotten them”, said Shana Andreotti-Briggs, a former student. “I need to know”.

Allen Federman, a business analyst at ITT Educational Services Inc.’s Carmel, Indiana, headquarters, and Steve Ryan, an instructor at two ITT Technical Institute locations in California, filed the complaint Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Delaware.

Shalonda Hughes, real estate associate with CBRE Las Vegas, declined to talk about the company’s lease there but said the shopping center was 80 percent occupied, including the ITT Technical Institute space.

The lawsuit further said that “ITT credits were typically not transferable to other post-secondary institutions”.

ITT Tech didn’t immediately respond to an NBC News request for comment. Past year the school received over 580 million dollars in federal money.

The announcement comes about two weeks after the U.S. Department of Education said it would ban the colleges from enrolling students who use federal aid and would impose more stringent financial oversight.

The company hasn’t been convicted of wrongdoing; nevertheless, the Education Department recently levied a series of financial sanctions against the company, and the school’s accreditor found it out of compliance.

“No one is responsible for looking out for the students as consumers”, he said.

“I was just one quarter shy of my degree”.

Only a few classes or tests stood in the way of some students’ graduations, and those who wish to continue might be able to find a school that will accept their credits. The school says 8,000 employees will lose their jobs.

We have always carefully managed expenses to align with our enrollments. “We had no intention prior to the receipt of the most recent sanctions of closing down despite the challenging regulatory environment that now threatens all proprietary higher education”.

“I’m sure we’ll hear from students that virtually none of their courses will transfer, and they’ll have to start all over again”, Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board Commissioner Raymund Paredes said Wednesday.

ITT said it was “forced.to cease operations” by the Education Department without a hearing or an opportunity to appeal.

ITT would not answer questions outside of the statement.

About 200 ITT employees will help students obtain grade transcripts and apply to other schools, and the chain said it is seeking agreements with other schools that would help students transfer class credits.
