The hospital statement today said that Ms Sori was evaluated by an ophthalmologist and her eyes, in bedside examination, appear to be normal, though she has orbital and conjunctival oedema (a condition when watery fluid collects in cavities or tissues). “Her skin is burnt and she is in great pain”.

The men, who were on a motorcycle, had thrown an acid-like chemical on her face, following which she was flown to Delhi for treatment.

Condemning the attack on tribal activist and AAP leader Soni Sori in Dantewada late Saturday, the party Monday demanded stringent action against Bastar Range Inspector General of Police S R P Kalluri against whom Sori had failed to lodge a police complaint earlier this month.

Soni Sori has previously been targeted by the authorities on several occasions. On 8 February 2016, the home of human rights defender Ms Malini Subramaniam in Jagdalpur city was attacked by unknown assailants.
