With this deal, Unilever will make its foray in air purification, a move that will complement its existing water purification business.

After the acquisition, Blueair will continue to operated under that name in all existing markets, within Unilever’s home care division, which accounted for 19% of its 2015 sales, while personal care accounted for the biggest chunk, or 38% of the group’s sales.

Unilever’s Home Care business President Nitin Paranjpe said: “The Blueair brand and products are widely known and represent exceptional quality and design, as well as superior capacity and performance”.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Demand for air purifiers has grown swiftly in recent years as awareness has risen about the multiple health and wellbeing risks posed by poor air quality at home and work.
