Authorities said a gunman and at least one other person were dead in a shooting in Houston on Sunday.

“Chief Montalvo also stated active shooter fired shots from a high powered weapon and caused multiple bullet strikes to one of our HPD helicopters”, Houston police said on Facebook.
Houston Police also said that a suspect had been killed in the firing.
KTRK-TV Houston reported that the shooting began at 10:15 a.m.
Witnesses reported that a gunman approached a man who had just pulled up to an auto detail shop and opened fire with a pistol, police spokesman John Cannon said.
Several people were shot and injured, including a man authorities initially described as another suspect because he was present and armed. Police say a second shooter was struck by gunfire and taken to the hospital.
“We do not know what started this, but what we do now is that they were shooting randomly at who ever happened to come upon the scene”, Montalvo said.

At one point, police say there were reports of people jumping over fences. Police believe the deceased suspect shot at HPD’s helicopter and that officer.
The county medical examiner may identify the gunman on Monday, Cannon said.
Montalvo said two officers and three citizens were also shot, and a police helicopter was shot at with a “high-powered” weapon.
Stephen Dittoe, who lives in the house right behind the shooting scene, said he first thought a transformer had exploded before realizing what he heard was gunfire. Police say it’s possible the gunman shot other vehicles during his rampage. His wife, Ha, says it went on too long for that.

At least one police officer was injured after getting shot in the hand.. At least two drivers told KHOU their vehicles were shot at. She took their two children, ages 6 and 7, into the bathroom, told them to eat breakfast in there, and called 911. Doing so may result in civil and/or criminal penalties.
