Unique Gamer IDs are coming to Google Play Games

Google says you can also do this by going into the Play Games app, but I don’t see the option yet (you might need the latest Play Games).

The feature could be useful for those not fond of linking their personal Google account and real-world name to their Clash of Clans village, revealing their addiction to Supercell’s free-to-play title to their entire contact list in the process.

It was announced a few weeks ago that Google Play Games would be dropping its Google+ integration and opting for another method for profiles.

Google has just announced an overhaul of its gaming service on Android, Google Play Games.

In an announcement made on Thursday, Google said that it has eliminated the Google+ log in requirement for Google Play Games.

As detailed on the Official Android Blog, gamers who want an account to record their feats will soon be offered “Gamer IDs”. If you already have a gamer ID, you no longer need to sign in to every game on your device. Your game activity and ID can be set to public or private, of course.

What do you think about these new Google Play Games features? With auto sign-in, users will be prompted to sign-in once per account, rather than once per game, and they will automatically be signed in to most future games.

As well as your name, you’ll get to choose a Gamer Picture – though there are only around 40 preset avatars available right now.
