There has been talk in recent weeks of the Red Devils cutting their losses and axing the Germany global but, according to The Sun, Schweinsteiger’s bloated wages have forced Jose Mourinho’s hand. The experinced midfielder managed only 13 in the Premier League before succumbing to injury again in April.
The player as reportedly told club officials that he is keen to stay and fight for his position and is happy in Manchester.
Louis van Gaal’s departure following the end of last season and Jose Mourinho’s subsequent appointment as boss has resulted in Schweinsteiger’s future being placed in doubt.
“Bastian will cost every penny of the £14m still owed to him on his two-years left”, a United source was quoted as saying by The Sun. The next few weeks will reveal more. “He will not be pushed out and will sit tight for a pay-off”.
United have already had a number of enquires from Germany and Italy for Schweinsteiger.
