United fans are the best, says under-fire Van Gaal
Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has accepted he may have to break with his famed philosophy and consider an emergency move for a striker this month if the goal drought continues at Old Trafford.

“I wasn’t surprised because of the big pressure that we missed chances”.
“But Ash was a warrior on Monday and we need him to produce that now until the end of the season”.
“In such a hard period, they were applauding the performance of the players and that’s fantastic”.
Van Gaal had backed Wayne Rooney to deliver 25 goals this season, but at the halfway point he has found the net just twice in the league while Anthony Martial has struggled to maintain the prolific scoring rate he enjoyed shortly after moving to Old Trafford. He has demonstrated an ability to lose 1-2 to Swansea in good times and bad alike, but they have rarely been this grim.
Manchester United ‘s players are apparently readying themselves for Diego Simeone to become their next boss. They need luck. How many players have had chances to score and why didn’t they score?
“You come up with a game plan to beat your opponent and then you have to convince your players”, said the Dutchman.
Swansea City are the visitors on Saturday and as United are nine points behind Arsenal and Leicester City they have to start winning games if their faltering title challenge is to be reignited.
Asked if he felt the pressure on him had been lifted by the performance against Chelsea, Van Gaal replied: “I don’t know because pressure can be what you experience by yourself, but also what the players feel”.
Van Gaal also sold Van Persie, who scored 48 goals in three years at Old Trafford, while Radamel Falcao left Old Trafford when his loan spell ended.
Van Gaal’s team, who have only scored 10 times in their last 14 fixtures, have been criticised for being too cautious, but the Dutchman believes their 0-0 draw against Chelsea shows they do gamble on committing men forward.
Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal remains in office after the most testing fortnight of his 18-month tenure, but he is not secure in his job just yet. “Then you can be committed and try to perform it”, he added.
“We could have kept all the strikers, but then there would have been a lot of strikers in the stand. They are not happy then”, van Gaal asserted.
