United Kingdom government to send more troops to tackle floods
Areas of northern England have been inundated with torrential rains in recent weeks, and rivers have crested past their banks, leading to thousands of evacuations in villages, town and even major cities like Leeds and Manchester.

But David Cameron, who was heckled by victims including a woman who shouted “no more cuts to public services”, defended funding for flood prevention.
Cameron said after an emergency Cobra ministerial meeting Sunday that the government would “do whatever is needed” to deal with the crisis. “However it shows that the flood defences were just not up to it”, said York resident Jonathan Lee, 25, a Telecoms engineer.
Mr Cameron told the BBC: “What has happened – the level of the rivers, plus the level of rainfall – has created an unprecedented effect and so some very serious flooding”.
Rivers in York, Leeds and Manchester have burst their banks, and military personnel have been deployed to help out.
Cameron said investment in flood defences would continue and praised the emergency services for their efforts.
The issue with the flood defences is that they did not anticipate a much higher barrier system, which would have both protected the homes and business, but saved more money in the long term than the cost of repairs.
Britain’s government said it will send more troops to tackle “unprecedented” flooding in northern England which has forced hundreds to flee their homes, including in the historic tourist city of York.
During Saturday night police visited 605 properties and evacuated 92 people from their homes, taking them to rest centres at a local school.
Twenty roads were closed, and around 3,500 properties were thought to be vulnerable to the rising waters.
LONDON (AP) – British Prime Minister David Cameron is set to see firsthand the devastation caused by weeks of heavy rains and swollen rivers in northern England.
Also, please don’t play in flood waters. “Clearly, in the light of that, we will be reviewing our flood defences”.
“In Lancashire, every single river was at a record high”, she said.
“And we urgently need the government to adopt the policies that will ensure we play our part in restricting climate change to a total of 1.5 degrees warming”.
“It must also invest in maintaining flood defences, rather than cutting them as they had planned, as well as look urgently at what else can be done to reduce flood risk in future”.
Overnight, the number of Environment Agency Severe Flood Warnings has fallen from 24 to 7, but there’s concern heavy rain forecast for Wednesday could bring fresh misery to those places worst affected.

There are still 94 flood warnings in place, 27 of which are for “severe” floods meaning there is a danger to life, the country’s Environment Agency said on its website on Monday.
