United Kingdom jets carry out second Syria strikes

British Defense Ministry announced that its warplanes launched on Thursday morning their first airstrikes against supposed positions of ISIS in Syria without clarifying the results of those strikes. The 397-223 vote in the House of Commons means Royal Air Force fighter jets – already operating against IS in neighboring Iraq – could be flying over Syria within days or even hours.

More fighter jets have been sent to RAF Akrotiri on Cyprus ahead of further sorties in Syria and continued raids in Iraq against Islamic State (IS), which is also known as Isis, Isil and Daesh.

“We are going to use force against them in the headquarters, their command and control, their logistics, but also in the infrastructure that supports them”, he told the Press Association.

“The West Midlands Counter Terrorism Unit is working hand-in-hand with counter-terrorism colleagues in London, the national CT network and security services to provide support to the French and Belgian investigations and of course to address any associated terrorism threat to the United Kingdom”, he told ITV.

During a visit to Bulgaria, Mr Cameron said: “We’ve now got more Tornados and more Typhoons in Cyprus ready to take action both over the skies of Iraq and over the skies of Syria because we have to defeat Daesh wherever it is”.

He made no assurances about the length of the campaign, telling them only it was “not going to be short or simple”.

Mr Fallon said there were no reports of civilian casualties following the strikes.

The statement on Abadi’s official Facebook page came after U.S. Army Colonel Steve Warren said a new force of around 100 special operations troops would be deployed to assist in the military campaign against Islamic State militants in Iraq.

He added: “But there is now a political process alongside the military operation which will lead to, we hope, a new settlement in Syria, a new type of government that will eventually be able to put its own forces into the fight against ISIL Daesh as the civil war ends”. It’s because of who we are in Britain and the West that we have this particular death cult. “But I want you to know also you go with the backing of the government and the people of Britain”.

At the same time, an unmanned Reaper drone destroyed an IS truck-bomb with a Hellfire missile south of Sinjar in Iraq.
