United Kingdom needs time to prepare for Brexit, May tells European Union leaders
He will be replaced by former Home Secretary Theresa May, who became Conservative leader on Monday after her sole contender for the job – Andrea Leadsom – dropped out of the race.

“As we leave the European Union we will forge a bold new positive role for ourselves in the world”.
Michael Fallon is to stay on as Defense Secretary following the changes at the top.
“I hope that your vast political experience will be sought after both in the United Kingdom and in the global community”, Putin’s message to Cameron said.
Boris Johnson, the new Foreign Secretary, had said earlier that the United Kingdom has been barred from inking free trade deals with countries like China and India owing to its European Union membership.
May has effectively handed Johnson, Davis and Fox the responsibility for successfully carrying out the withdrawal – known as Brexit – which they repeatedly promised would yield new opportunities.
In a speech earlier outside 10 Downing St., May said she followed in the footsteps of “a great modern prime minister”.
It said: “The Right Honourable David Cameron MP had an audience of the Queen this evening and tendered his resignation as Prime Minister and First Lord of the Treasury, which Her Majesty was graciously pleased to accept”.
Later, she tapped Johnson as foreign secretary and Fox as secretary of state for worldwide trade.
Not to mention a Conservative Party whose infighting over Europe prompted Cameron to call a referendum in the first place – much to his spectacular downfall.
Davis campaigned to leave the EU, and it will be his job to defend Britain’s economy in new trade agreements with European countries.
European Council president Donald Tusk said he is hoping for a fruitful working relationship and is keen to meet with her.
The Taoiseach spoke with Ms May following her appointment last night and discussed what he described as “the important challenges that arise from the recent vote by the United Kingdom to leave the European Union”.
A large crowd gathered at the gates of the palace to watch the transition of power from one prime minister to his successor.
Wednesday marked a new beginning for both politicians. “We will rise to the challenge”.
May herself had sided with Cameron in trying to keep Britain inside the European Union, so needed to reach out to the winning Leave side in order to heal divisions in the ruling party and show her commitment to respecting the popular vote.
Germany’s finance minister says Britain will need time to work out what relationship it wants with the European Union but it would be good to have clarity quickly.
He then returned to Downing Street, where he left two bottles of red wine for Mrs May in her new office, before his final departure.

Mrs May has already made telephone calls to key global partners, including President Hollande, and the Elysée says the French president told her he hopes negotiations for the UKs EU exit will now begin as fast as possible.
