United Kingdom opposition leader wins fight to defend position

Now, a JustGiving page has been set up by supporters of Jeremy Corbyn to help those who can’t afford that fee and want to vote.

He retains the support of Labour’s big union backers and earlier this week won the right to feature on the leadership ballot paper without having to clear the hurdle of collecting nominations from 51 MPs or MEPs.

Labour faces a summer of bruising clashes which threaten to split the party in two after the NEC said the leader should automatically be included in the contest.

Mr Corbyn expressed his delight at the decision and afterwards said: “I’m sure Labour MPs will understand that the party has to come together in order to present to the British people the options of a different and better way of doing things”.

“Everybody I talk to is absolutely appalled at the actions of the Parliamentary Labour Party”, he said.

A second former aide of beleaguered Labour party chief Jeremy Corbyn came forward today as a potential candidate to replace the opposition leader who is facing calls for his ouster in the wake of the Brexit vote.

The vast majority of Labour MPs are engaged in a battle to replace Mr Corbyn after most of his shadow cabinet resigned and 172 MPs backed a no confidence motion in him.

Mr Foster, who stood as the Labour candidate in Redruth and Camborne in 2015, said: “What I am against is the apparent manipulation of the rules, which has elevated one member, in this case Jeremy Corbyn, above all other members”.

But shadow chancellor John McDonnell insisted that he expected an “amicable” contest which would focus on policies.

In his final appearance in the House of Commons, before he hands over to incoming Prime Minister Theresa May, David Cameron drew a contrast between his Conservative Party’s orderly transition and Labour’s warring.

Ms Eagle has already obtained the signatures, while the National Executive Committee ruled on Tuesday that Mr Corbyn did not need them. “We want to see a Labour Party united around him taking the fight to the Tories as Britain’s new government plunges us into the most uncertain times we have faced in living memory”.

“If Jeremy does win, they have to get behind him”.

“It is bullying. It has absolutely no place in politics in the United Kingdom and it needs to end”, Eagle said about the incident.

“We regret their decision to disregard and undermine the membership’s democratic decision which resulted in the election of our party leader Jeremy Corbyn just nine months ago”.
