The telecoms giant has since said the data hacked was “significantly less than originally suspected” with fewer than 21,000 unique bank account numbers and sort codes accessed.
Dido Harding, TalkTalk chief executive stated that she was still not certain how numerous telecoms mogul’s 4 million customers in the United Kingdom had been affected by the cyber attack.
Now, police have arrested a second person in connection with the case, and it’s again a youth: an unnamed 16 year old male from Feltham, West London, was taken into custody on suspicion of offences against the Computer Misuse Act.
Up to 1.2million email address, names and phone numbers as well as bank details were accessed by hackers last week when they breached the phone and broadband provider’s security.
The teenager has been bailed to a date yet to be confirmed.
The personal data of a few four million TalkTalk customers are feared to have been compromised in the third cyber attack on the firm in eight months in which customers’ data have been stolen.
Police confirmed that officers have also carried out a search at a residential property in Liverpool in connection with the “significant and sustained” attack on its website on 21 October.
The Met’s cybercrime unit and officers from the National Crime Agency-Britain’s FBI-continue to investigate.
The first boy arrested, from Northern Ireland, is known to like the Call Of Duty video game which simulates warfare, neighbours said.

In addition, TalkTalk has also said that fewer than 28,000 obscured credit and debit card details were exposed in the cyber attack; and fewer than 15,000 customer dates of birth were exposed.
