Libya’s National Oil Corporation said on Saturday it was working with the UN-backed unity government, which arrived in Tripoli this week, to coordinate future oil sales and “put a period of divisions and rivalry behind us”.

Kobler had been prevented from travelling to the capital last month by authorities in charge of Tripoli, who have so far refused to cede power to the unity government.

The announcement comes less than a week after the arrival in Tripoli of a UN-backed national unity government.
The unity government has been formed under a power-sharing deal agreed by some lawmakers in December.
The West is now backing a U.N.-brokered national unity government, which arrived in Tripoli from Tunisia last week and has been operating from a naval base as it seeks to establish its authority.
An adviser to Kobler said the United Nations envoy discussed with Sarraj “ways to support the action” of the unity government.
The country has been in turmoil since the 2011 NATO-backed uprising that toppled and killed longtime dictator Moamer Kadhafi, with rival forces battling for its cities and oil wealth.

Western nations view the new government as the best hope for ending Libya’s chaos and uniting all factions against an increasingly powerful Islamic State affiliate, which has seized the central city of Sirte. It called on the Libyan stakeholders to support this government and help it take office and fulfill its mission in the fight against terrorism, securing the borders and improving the living conditions of the Libyan people.
