United Nations spotlight on Mideast crises; Netanyahu blasts Iran deal
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Thursday Iran had delivered a number of SA-22 anti-aircraft and Yakhont anti-ship missiles to Hezbollah in Lebanon to target Israel, and vowed to “act” to prevent future weapons transfers.

“Israel expects the Palestinian Authority to abide by its commitments”, Netanyahu said. He issued a warning about the “heavy price of silence”.
It’s not that Netanyahu has experienced a sudden conversion on the Iranian nuclear deal, which he desperately tried – and failed – to thwart.
Binyamin Netanyahu wants to have a crack at it again and if the feasibility study satisfies his government, then the first legalized casino in Israel could open up in Eilat, a coastal city that is a major attraction for tourists.
“You are all aware that Israel undermined the efforts made by the administration of President Barack Obama in past years”, said Abbas during his United Nations speech.
I suspect that President Obama may have so little time for Prime Minister Netanyahu for the very reason that he feels his own lack of presence when he is in the same room with the Prime Minister. I pointed out that roughly half of the world’s Jewish population is in Israel and half is in the USA; remove Israel – which, based on Iran’s rhetoric, is a primary motivation for their nuclear program – and the new target would be the US itself. “But we owe it to our peoples to try, to continue to try”, he said.
“Israel is working closely with our Arab peace partners to address our common security challenges from Iran and also the security challenges from ISIL (Islamic State) and others”, he said. Describing the greatest danger to the world as “the coupling of militant Islam with nuclear weapons”, Netanyahu said the Iran nuclear deal may well “prove to be the marriage certificate of that unholy union”. “I will say all of this and more at the United Nations General Assembly and in my meetings in the USA”.
Netanyahu and Kerry both also noted the mass shooting at a college in Oregon on Thursday that left nine people and the gunman dead. “The alliance between Israel and the United States is unshakable”.

“Israel will not permit any force on earth to threaten its future”, he added.
