United roar and Old Trafford finds its voice

Jesse Lingard says Manchester United are playing with much more freedom after being given license to express themselves by manager Louis van Gaal.

“We are the ones who have been on the pitch playing”.

Guillermo Varela’s proposed loan move to Genoa was reportedly cancelled by Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal.

It was probably one of our best games this season, but we need to keep this level like I said before, because we have really good players in attack – quick, powerful, and they score a lot of goals.

Jeered off by disgruntled supporters after a 1-0 defeat to Southampton in their previous home outing, Van Gaal made a tactical U-turn that left Old Trafford purring with delight.

Rooney was dropped for United’s 2-0 Boxing Day defeat at Stoke as United lost for the fourth game running – a run that prompted serious scrutiny of Van Gaal’s position – but has since scored seven goals in as many games.

Speaking to ManUtd.com after the game, Lingard said that featuring regularly for the first team has always been his objective, and he insisted he’ll continue to work hard to keep his place in the side.

“It’s a weight off our shoulders and we can just play football now”, he added.

The 3-0 win against Stoke City on Tuesday night was the most impressive performance of late, with Anthony Martial again standing out and earning the Man of the Match award.

While arguably not a flawless fit with United’s heritage and traditions, the former Chelsea boss is the fans’ preferred choice to replace Van Gaal, with some even mocking up scarves to display their support for his potential appointment. “He’s come into the first-team fold, he’s played a few games and now he’s getting that experience that he needs”.

“We have to play the game as we see it at the time, we showed great character to do that in the last game and were unfortunate not to get the result against Southampton but we bounced back against Derby and today against Stoke”.
