As of late Friday evening, Charles de Gaulle Airport remains open and trains are running, although security remains high.
An Air France jet that was headed for Paris was evacuated at the Schiphol Airport at Amsterdam as the authorities were alerted by a threatening tweet.
At Gatwick, bomb-disposal experts were called to the airport’s North Terminal after what Sussex Police described as “suspicious actions by a man who discarded an item at the airport”.
For those who had trips to, from or through France between last Friday and this coming Monday the 16th, Delta is allowing passengers the chance to reschedule to a travel date no later than November 22 (the change must be made by November 22). United and American decline to give details on the occupancy levels of their flights. Fact is that most airplanes heading towards Paris are nearly empty, which means companies do not cover their expenses. “I was very anxious to be stuck in Paris and I was really anxious to be in the airport in Paris honestly”, Vogel said. They said all their hotels were reported safe and stringent security measures are in place in all their Paris properties. He and his wife might do the same next month. “It’s awful”, he said.
However, Vogel says Paris airport officials did a wonderful job of keeping passengers calm.
Non-Westerners are also anxious about the Paris attacks, especially those whose ethnicity and religion could have them profiled accordingly. Egyptian college graduate Aya Sayed has always dreamed of strolling the streets of the City of Light.
“I would be too afraid to go because I don’t want to be mistreated because of my headscarf or ethnicity”, she said.
Exeter MP Ben Bradshaw has spoken of his shock over the terrorist attacks in Paris.
As Parisians lined up to donate blood and concerned friends and family sought information about loved ones, many tourists – here to enjoy one of the loveliest cities in the world – were making abrupt plans to return home.
Airport security also was ratcheted up, with many fliers taking to social media with photos of long queues at French airports. Other USA carriers are continuing to fly out of the city. “They weren’t sure what was going on”, Kamalanathen explained. “You can’t make sense of it”.
Flights in and out of Paris have been affected by Friday’s attacks.
