United States declares health emergency in Puerto Rico due to Zika
The health department said the third infection is outside that zone in Miami-Dade County.

The announcement came hours after Puerto Rico reported 1,914 new cases in the past week, for a total of 10,690 since the first one was reported in December. Officials also say 30 people have been diagnosed with a temporary paralysis condition known as Guillain-Barre that has been linked to Zika.
Garcia recently authorized the use of Bti, an organic larvicide, to fight the spread of Zika after rejecting aerial spraying with the insecticide naled as proposed by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Clinton gave a speech at the Borinquen Medical Center, a health clinic located near Miami where Zika-carrying mosquitoes are present. According to Reuters, lawmakers must approve the $1.1 billion bipartisan bill for the mosquito-borne virus or show up with a compromise. It causes mild, flu-like symptoms in most people, but can cause severe brain-related defects, including disastrously small heads, if women are infected during pregnancy.
The reports of insecticide success in Miami were the second bit of recent good news on the Zika front in the United States.
So far, the almost 1,700 Zika infections reported in the United States mainly have been linked to travel to countries with Zika outbreaks in Latin America or the Caribbean.
In the meantime, the CDC is urging pregnant women and their partners to stay away from Miami’s Wynwood neighborhood – the first time the CDC has ever warned against travel to an American neighborhood for fear of an infectious disease. “This emergency declaration allows us to provide additional support to the Puerto Rican government and reminds us of the importance of pregnant women, women of childbearing age, and their partners taking additional steps to protect themselves and their families from Zika”, Burwell said.

Keystone said the Aedes mosquito is a daytime-biting insect most active in the morning and late afternoon, and using mosquito repellent and covering your body as much as possible in areas with Zika outbreaks is important.
