United States election 2016: Hillary Clinton releases tax returns
U.S. Dmocratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton on Friday released her 2015 tax returns and stepped up pressure on her Republican opponent Donald Trump to make his tax returns public.

The Clintons made a combined $10.6 million in 2015, paying an effective federal income tax rate of 34.2% – $3.24 million in federal taxes past year. During the Ford administration, the top federal income tax rate was 70 percent.
Kaine also released his returns dating to 2006, while the Clintons released all of their annual tax returns going back to 1977. Taking into account their state and local taxes, the Clintons had a total effective tax rate of more than 43 percent in 2015.
Trump has repeatedly rebuffed calls to release his most recent tax returns because they are under federal audit.
Mr Trump has repeatedly declined to share his tax information, claiming that he is now undergoing an audit from the Internal Revenue Service. They have now released their tax returns for every one of the last 39 years.
Trump’s running mate, Mike Pence, has yet to say if he will release his taxes, which he has not done as governor of Indiana.
It is customary for United States presidential candidates to make their tax returns public, although they are not required by law to do so. They brought in a combined $28 million that year.
Also releasing a decade’s worth of tax returns Friday is Sen. Both Clintons reported income from royalties and retirement plans and just over $84,000 in income from an investment in the Vanguard 500 Index mutual fund.
“Hillary Clinton has turned over the only records nobody wants to see from her – the American public wants to see the 33,000 emails she deleted to obstruct an FBI investigation”, Jason Miller, the Trump campaign’s senior communications advisor, said in a written statement.
What might be in Trump’s tax return? Capital gains are generally taxed at a lower rate. Bill Clinton made more $5.25 million in speaking fees, while his wife made almost $1.5 from paid speeches.

Trump has faced a series of self-inflicted controversies since the Democratic National Convention last month, when he suggested that Russian Federation should hack into Hillary Clinton’s emails from when she was secretary of state.

Trump’s critics, including 2012 Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney and other fellow Republicans, have said his refusal raises questions about his net worth, his charitable contributions, his business dealings and other ties, including with Russian Federation.
