United States election: Hillary Clinton to accept historic Democratic nomination
Hillary Clinton did not make any major gaffes or glaring mistakes in her big speech to close the Democratic National Convention Thursday night. “She spent the evening talking down to the American people she’s looked down on her whole life”, said the statement, adding later that “it’s a speech delivered from a fantasy universe, not the reality we live in today”. She criticized Trump’s proposals including one to build a wall along the Mexico-US border and another to ban Muslims from entering the country. They are supplied by IMAX Corporation in Tulsa, Oklahoma state, which says on its website that it sources products from India and China. Her speech offered an olive branch to those unsure about her possible presidency, pointing out that she alone cannot fix our problems – as Trump asserted he could.

A majority of the Sanders delegates said they would support Clinton, and the disunity in the Wells Fargo Arena was more a vocal minority than a full-on rebellion.
Earlier in the closing programme, Humayun Khan’s father, Khizr Khan, was one of the speakers.
But Mrs Clinton said Democrats had not done a good enough job of showing working families that they understood what they were going through and said she agreed with families who have told her the economy was not working. “It’s about us, it’s not about one man. It doesn’t matter what he thinks”.
“If we’re serious about keeping our country safe, we can’t afford to have a President who’s in the pocket of the gun lobby”. “A man you can bait with a tweet is not a man we can trust with nuclear weapons”, Clinton said, alluding to Trump’s penchant for social media. If it was up to Donald Trump he never would have been in America.
He also knocked the length of her “very long” 57-minute speech. Clinton became the first woman to formally accept the Democratic party’s nomination last night.
I’m moved that we actually got here in my lifetime, and I’m glad that it’s her: This woman, of all women, has had to fight to earn her place at the table. “We have to decide whether we will all work together so we can all rise together”. With the Democrats’ sunnier performance, Clinton should get her own bump as the 14-week sprint to Election Day begins.
“Some people just don’t know what to make of me”, she said with a frankness that is unusual in American politics. Happy for boys and men, too – because when any barrier falls in America, for anyone, it clears the way for everyone. Despite critique from conservatives that she was merely running on her status as the first female nominee, Clinton reveled in the “glass ceiling” which she had broken through.

As for the ratings race between the broadcast and cable news networks, CNN won handily once again to sweep the week, averaging 7.5 million viewers during Clinton’s speech in the 10:00 p.m. hour.
