U.S. Forces Korea said one of the two B-1B bombers landed at Osan Air Base, 120 kilometers (75 miles) from the border with North Korea, but did not say when it will return to Andersen Air Force Base in Guam. One of the bombers landed at the base; U.S. Forces Korea declined to say how long it would remain there.

North Korea said in a statement carried by state-run Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) that it had standardized the warhead, enabling it “produce at will and as many as it wants a variety of smaller, lighter, and diversified nuclear warheads of higher strike power”.

Two supersonic USA bombers flew over South Korea Wednesday and one landed just south of the capital Seoul, eight days after South Korean fighter jets escorted two U.S. B-1 bombers the closest they have ever been to North Korea, Reuters reported.

“What we are showing today is just one tool we have to choose from a wide array of options”, Bergeson said. The US said the flyover was an assurance of the country’s commitment to preserving security on the peninsula and in the region.

The B-1B can reportedly reach the Korean Peninsula in just two hours from Anderson Air Force Base in Guam.

Hyten said he is concerned about what North Korea would do after it has mastered the ability to mount an ICBM with a nuclear weapon, adding that if he is appointed to the top position at the U.S. Strategic Command he would make North Korea’s nuclear provocations a priority.

The B-1B doesn’t now carry nuclear weapons under a disarmament treaty, and some USA experts do not consider them as nuclear capable in their current configuration. The U.S. leader said that, . while Iran agrees to accept constraints on its nuclear program, North Korea pushed ahead with a test that threatens global security.

China, which has objected to a planned U.S. deployment of the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense anti-missile system in the South to counter the North’s missile threat, called on “all parties to exercise restraint and to avoid any actions that could further escalate tensions”. The supersonic bombers had made a sortie from the USA air base in Guam.

About 28,500 U.S. troops are stationed in South Korea, which has no nuclear weapons and depends on the “nuclear umbrella” of the United States to deter its northern neighbor. On Tuesday, it announced the successful ground test of a new type of “high-power engine”, ostensibly for launching satellites, but which the US has called a cover for testing missile technology. The isolated nation has also conducted several other missile and rocket tests within the past year, at what Elise calls an “unprecedented rate”.

“I think all members of the U.N. have to ask themselves whether North Korea is really qualified as a member of the U.N.”, Yun said in an interview late Tuesday said on the sidelines of the annual gathering of world leaders at its headquarters in NY.
