United States labels North Korea a money launderer, South welcomes move
Earlier this week, North Korea’s United Nations envoy had dismissed Trump’s proposal to discuss Pyongyang’s nuclear program with Kim Jong Un directly as a “kind of propaganda or advertisement” in his campaign.

Mr Ri’s visit to China is the first by a North Korean official since a once-in-a-generation Workers Party Congress last month.
Ri also gave a briefing on the seventh WPK Congress, which was held in early May, during which Kim was elected chairman of the ruling party.
North Korea conducted a failed missile launch Tuesday, the South Korean and USA militaries said, the fourth such test in recent months. Xi said the visit embodied the countries’ tradition of strategic discussion of important issues.
Mr Xi told the North Korean envoy that China attached great store to the friendly relationship between the two countries, and was willing to work with North Korea to consolidate that friendship.
DPRK is the acronym of North Korea’s official name: the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea.
The country has for years called for the withdrawal of United States troops from South Korea, and demanded Washington sign a peace treaty to replace the truce that ended the 1950-53 Korean War. Kim, which called North Korea a “responsible nuclear weapons state” back in May, is expected to bolster diplomatic efforts to aid the country’s sputtering economy.
In a Tuesday column in DPRK Today, a news site run by the North Korean government, scholar Han Yong Muk called Trump a “wise politician” and the right choice for voters, according to a Reuters report.
Trump told The New York Times in March that South Korea and Japan should pay much more for the US troops based in their countries – about 28,000 in South Korea and around 50,000 in Japan.
But the meeting comes at a time when relations between Beijing and Pyongyang are uneasy and occurred on the same day South Korean news network MBN reported Chinese authorities are on alert after an armed North Korean soldier crossed the border illegally.
North Korea walked away from six-party nuclear disarmament talks in 2009 over disagreements on how to verify steps the North was meant to take to end its nuclear programs.
