United States should not take in Syrian refugees

The House of Representatives just voted on a bill that would beef-up provisions for vetting Syrian refugees, this coming on the heels of the terrorist attack in Paris.

“The one thing I’ve learned from Paris is that we need to have a timeout on bringing refugees into this country until we have a system that we think will work”, he said in an interview with Fox News Radio. “All refugees, including Syrians, may only be admitted (to) the United States after USCIS receives all the security checks run by the intelligence and law enforcement communities and all issues are resolved”.

Ten days later, he was among several mayors who signed a letter to Obama saying they are willing to take in more refugees.

Refugee advocates contend the process, which requires that candidates be nominated by the United Nations High Commissioner on Refugees and can take up to two years, is sufficiently thorough. And the screening happens a couple of times, allowing USA officials to detect any recent suspicious activity before giving refugees the greenlight. And that’s why Hurd and his colleagues are concerned with the political movement to restrict Syrian refugees.

But instead of helping them, the government will now be forced to burden them more by increasing the taxes they pay to support Obama’s immigration programme among others, Brooks said.

Nearly two-thirds of the nation’s governors (31 out of 50) have told the president not to send Syrian refugees to their states without assurances that the influx would not become a Trojan Horse.

Mayorkas said Monday the bill is impractical and would mean that the top US national security officials would need to spend most of their working hours reviewing refugee applications. Terrorists have made it clear that they intend to infiltrate this refugee population to reach the West and carry out other attacks.

Closing the door on the refugees, President Obama announced on November 16, would be a betrayal of American values.

Vanderhoof added that if the U.S.is able to check the databases of other countries in the region like Jordan or Lebanon, where the refugees may have first migrated to upon leaving Syria.

“Gov. Bryant’s position hasn’t changed on accepting Syrian refugees, ” said Knox Graham, a spokesman for Bryant. “We continually evaluate whether more precautions are necessary”. America is a country of immigrants, so I find those views hypocritical and racist. “On the contrary, we have refugee movements because of tyranny, of conflict and of terrorism”. “On October 22, 2015, Federal Bureau of Investigation Director James Comey confirmed this in testimony before the House Judiciary Committee, repeatedly stating that the government does not have the resources and lacks the necessary information to fully vet Syrian refugees, and could not offer any assurances that there is no risk associated with admitting these individuals to the country”. “Governors who reject those fleeing war and persecution abandon our ideals and instead project our fears to the world”, the council said.
