Being a predominantly summer-sports dominated country, India has not seen big contingents grace the Winter Olympics over the years, much unlike the other games like the Summer Olympics or the Asian or Commonwealth Games.

On Thursday, the International Olympic Committee review panel issued a list of criteria that it used to issue invitations for Russian athletes.

“This is really a very hard situation”, Ahn exclusively told RT.

Gumel, who is also a member of International Olympic Committee (IOC), applauded the preparation of the people and government of South Korea for the Olympics.

The IOC is vetting Russian athletes before issuing invitations for them to compete in Pyeongchang.

But it said that some Russians would be allowed to compete in neutral uniforms under the Olympic flag provided they met certain guidelines on doping.

They join the seven athletes previously nominated to compete in slopestyle and big air. Short-track Olympic gold medalist Semyon Elistratov told RT’s Ruptly video agency that the “the fighting spirit and morale” are high in the team.

It’s that attitude, she says, which she is most proud of.

“Given results over the last two years at elite level, there is potential for success across a broader range of sports than ever before and I am confident that with this group of athletes we can make history once again”.

All Russian national symbols, including the flag, anthem and the county’s coat of arms, will be prohibited as part of the suspension, which is expected to be lifted before the Closing Ceremony.
