The top two teams in each pool and the victor of wild-card playoff between the third-place teams advance to Sunday’s singles matches, with each player from the winning country taking home $100,000 apiece. They are one point clear of Japan and Thailand.
Korea can move to the top of the pool if they win both of their matches when they resume on Sunday morning.
After being down 0-2, however, the US went 3-0-1 on Friday and Saturday. But Piller joined the group for an American victory in the Solheim Cup past year in Germany, and their chemistry and confidence in each other was on full display when they made a decision to keep the same four-ball pairings after they came up empty Thursday.
Lexi Thompson, Stacy Lewis, Gerina Piller and Cristie Kerr guided Team United States to victory at the UL International Crown. Kerr/Thompson never looked back, winning 4 and 2 over Ai Suzuki and Ayaka Watanabe.
Piller is the only member of Team USA that wasn’t part of the disappointing showing in the first Crown, and her putting was vital to her team winning on Saturday.
“It’s huge”, Lewis said.
“I felt like we played well enough, but just didn’t make enough putts and when it comes to that format, that’s what you’ve got to do”.
Kerr/Thompson was more of a team effort.
“We were walking down the fairway right next to each other the whole time today.I think we’re having a lot of fun out there, and it definitely helped”.
After Lewis birdied No. 15 to square the match, Hull posted an eagle and a birdie to close it out for England.
Charley Hull missed Friday’s competition with a fever, leaving Reid solo in her four-ball match against Japan’s Haru Nomara and Mika Miyazato. She completed a terrific week, going 3-0-1.
“It’s not the first time we’ve done this”, said Gerina Piller, referring to the Americans’ extraordinary comeback at the 2015 Solheim Cup in Germany.
“I just kind of dug deep toward the end”, said Piller, “and kind of had the mentality of taking no prisoners”.
“Ever since we got here this week, the team has bonded really well”, Shadoff told reporters at a press conference.
