In another Olympics dominated by USA women, Steffens and her teammates shined as brightly as any of them.
Bianconi scored two goals in each game against China and Russian Federation to bring her total to 11 in Rio. Coach Adam Krikorian’s brother, Blake, died unexpectedly two days before the opening ceremony, and Krikorian returned to the United States for services before flying back to Rio on the eve of the US opener. Keszthelyi bounced one off the surface right past Johnson with 18 seconds to go, but the clock ran out and the US got the victory, 14-10.
“My players gave it everything that they could today”. But the Americans’ consistency proved too much for Hungary.
USA men and women have won gold medals in nine different sports so far during the Rio Games, but in no other sport has their performance been so dominating.
Krikorian wasn’t thrilled with the defensive effort. Its more of a sign of respect and love that I think we all have for each other.. “Our preparation didn’t just start this year, it began four years ago and we’ve been building our team for that long”.

In a thrilling high-scoring match that saw the lead and possession change hands continuously, the Hungarians looked to have one hand on the bronze when they moved into an 11-9 lead in the final quarter. “Obviously, he’d be rooting for us”.
