University of Louisville trustees may be ready to decide the status of embattled school President James Ramsey.

Ramsey would also would keep the accrued benefits and one-year administrative leave he was given under his existing contract, ensuring that he would be paid his full salary through 2018.

The action by the school’s new board at a special meeting Wednesday signals the end of an era.

But he came under increasing attack for embezzlement scandals and other campus embarrassments, including an investigation of a top health care executive. “And Ramsey’s compensation, upwards of $2.8 million in 2014, has drawn widespread scrutiny for being much higher than comparable institutions pay”.

During that session, Ramsey read aloud his June 17 letter to Gov. Matt Bevin promising to resign immediately once the new board appointed by the governor was legally constituted. “After a culmination of a lot of things, he just felt that was best for the university”.

But his time in office has also brought some embarrassments, such as an incident around Halloween a year ago in which a photo emerged showing Ramsey, his wife and more than a dozen school staffers “dressed in sombreros and stereotypical Mexican garb” at his mansion, as member station WFPL reported.

Bridgeman told reporters Wednesday night that the Foundation’s board, which Bridgeman also chairs and of which Ramsey is a member, would consider Ramsey’s tenure there in the fall.
