The Board of Curators tapped Middleton at a closed-door meeting Wednesday night, according to the school. At a news conference announcing his appointment as the university system’s interim president, he vowed to take on the racial problems that inspired the protests that helped force Monday’s abrupt resignation of President Tim Wolfe and another top administrator.

Michael Middleton, 68, has spent 30 years at the university – as an undergraduate, law student, faculty member and finally, administrator.

But by Wednesday morning, there were no official reports of violence on campus. In 1997, he was named interim vice provost for minority affairs and faculty development. Middleton retired as deputy chancellor of the Columbia campus in August. On Thursday, the board said Loftin’s resignation timeline had been accelerated and that his interim replacement, Hank Foley, had already assumed that role. Several student organizations signed the recommendation letter, including the Legion of Black Collegians. Police were reviewing video surveillance from the area.

Police said the suspect wasn’t “on or near the MU campus at the time of the threat”. “We are receiving assistance from the Missouri State Highway Patrol and will continue to have an increased security presence on campus for the foreseeable future”. An arrest warrant has been issued for him.

A second student was arrested at Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville for allegedly posting a threat on Yik Yak that read, “I’m gonna shoot any black people tomorrow, so be ready”.

Authorities say the threats showed up Tuesday on the anonymous location-based messaging app Yik Yak and other social media.

Park, who is enrolled at the Missouri University of Science and Technology, was jailed in Columbia, about 75 miles to the northwest.

The Missouri case is bringing attention to issues that have been simmering on other campuses for months or longer amid a national discussion of race relations and treatment of blacks in America.

He allegedly wrote: “I’m going to stand my ground tomorrow and shoot every black person I see”.

Nineteen-year-old Tyler Bradenberg, of St. Louis, was charged Thursday with a felony count of making a terrorist threat.

It was unclear how police homed in on the suspect.

Connor Stottlemyre was detained by campus police on Wednesday evening. “It also shows students that the work they’re doing isn’t in vain”.

“The campus is not on lockdown”. “We will kill you”.

Protesters clamored for change and for Wolfe to step down.

Wolfe and the chancellor of the Columbia campus, R. Bowen Loftin, abruptly resigned on Monday.

“Our campus has experienced significant turbulence, and many within our community have suffered threats against their lives and humanity”.

“Threats of violence of any kind are not tolerated”, said Cheryl Schrader, Chancellor of S&T, in a statement on Wednesday.

“The process of making our campus as inclusive as it must be will not be easy”. From Georgia Southern University and Howard University in the nation’s capital to the University of Denver and the University of Southern California, activists at schools across the nation have shared their support with Concerned Student 1950 and Missouri Students Association President Payton Head.

These threats come amid racial tensions on campus where black students protested against what they see as a lack of response to racial incidents.

The University of Missouri’s governing board is set to name a new interim president for the university system.

The crowd sang and chanted for an end to racism on campus. The officer “noticed there was a swastika drawn on the wall by someone using feces”, the report stated.

A day after about 30 black players declared a boycott of football-related activities in support of a hunger-striking Missouri graduate student, Pinkel took to social media to announce that his team would act as one, even though it would have cost the school $1 million to cancel the game against BYU at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City.

“Im shaking and crying these white guys are in a monster blue pick up truck no license plate circling our vehicle we nearly couldnt get out”, one student tweeted.
